ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University volleyball team got back to its winning ways by sweeping Sul Ross State University, 3-0, at Kimbrell Arena. The War Hawks (10-6, 3-4 ASC) defeated the Lobos (2-15, 0-7 ASC) by set scores of 25-13, 25-20, 25-17, to snap a three-match skid.
It also marked the eighth time this season that the McM squad has swept an opponent.
McMurry's dynamic duo of
Justice McGowan and
Jasmine Jones did the bulk of the damage on the War Hawks' attack, with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. McGowan was particularly effective by not making any errors in her 15 attempts, for a .800 attack average. She also had six blocks (three solo) in the match.
Madison Reed added seven kills and
Jordyn Burnell five. As a team, the War Hawks managed an attack average of .270.
Lauryn Davis topped McM with 20 assists.
Emarie James added 15 assists. James also had 11 digs.
Junior libero
Odalis Rodriguez had 19 digs to lead the back row efforts. In all, McM had 61 digs, adding to the Lobos' frustration and a negative-.009 attack average.
McMurry also served up a total of six aces, two by James. Burnell, Davis,
Khristyn Howard and Rodriguez had one ace, apiece.
The War Hawks will not have long to savor the victory, as they will host Howard Payne University on Saturday at 12 p.m.
