JACKSON, Miss. -  McMurry University baseball lost the rubber game of its series at Belhaven University, suffering a 3-0 shutout at Smith-Wills Stadium.  The loss dropped the War Hawks to 2-4 overall, while the Blazers improved to 4-1.
 
Junior shortstop Noah Clarkson went 2-for-3, including a fifth-inning double which proved to be his team's only extra-base hit of the day. The McM team collected eight hits as a unit.
 
Matthew Chalk was the team's only other player with multiple hits, going 2-for-4.
 
Mike Gonzales took the loss in his first start as a War Hawk. Gonzales went 7.0 innings, scattering seven hits. Gonzales was charged with all three Blazer runs, only two of which were earned. He struck out four and walked just one.
 
Garrett Scudder pitched a scoreless eight in relief. It was Scudder's second appearance of 2017 without allowing a run.
 
Meanwhile, BU starter Tyler Wolfe improved to 2-0 with the complete game shutout. Wolfe struck out seven and walked one.
 
McMurry had just one batter reach third base. In the fifth, Kevin Garza led off with a single to left. Then with one out, Clarkson laced his double to left and Garza advanced to third.  But the next two McM batters went down in order to quell the threat.
