Box Score REDLANDS, Calif. – A late rally by the McMurry University women's basketball team came up short in a 69-60 loss to Chapman University (Calif.), at the University of Redlands Tip-Off Classic at Currier Gym. The War Hawks fell to 0-2 on the young 2017-18 season.
McM trailed by 10 points, 20-10, after the first quarter and was down 13 at the half, 36-23. Early in the third stanza, the Panthers had their largest lead over McM – 16 points (39-23) – with 9:26 left and still held a 49-42 advantage entering the fourth quarter.

Brittany Densman-Roes rallied her War Hawks team and with 6:02 left, McMurry had cut the deficit to three points, 52-49, after a jumper by
Skyler Reyna. With 32 seconds left, the War Hawks were down just four points after a three-ball from Dominque Machuca made it 62-58.
But that was as close as the War Hawks would get down the stretch, as Chapman converted its free throws.
Returning players Reyna and
Sham Hunter each registered double-doubles in the loss. Reyna scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, dishing off three assists, as well. Reyna was 7-for-16 from the field in her 28 minutes on the floor.
Hunter, a senior guard, tallied 13 points and pulled down a game-high 11 boards (eight on the defensive end). Hunter also led all players with five assists and made three steals.
Machuca finished with nine points.
Kaymee Howell hit a pair of treys for six points, while
BreAnn Ford also had six points to go along with her seven rebounds and two blocks.
As a team, the War Hawks hit 8-of-25 (32 percent) from beyond the arc and shot 35 percent (20-57) overall from the floor. McM was 12-of-15 (80 percent) from the free throw stripe.
