War Hawks Win Sets Up Saturday NCCAA Regional Title Tilt

ABILENE, Texas -  The McMurry University volleyball team will play for the 2017 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Region title, after knocking off Southwestern Christian University, 3-0, at Kimbrell Arena.  The War Hawks (22-7) will face the tourney's top seed – Southwestern Assemblies of God University (which also defeated SWCU, 3-2, in the first game of the day) on Saturday at 12 p.m. for the championship and an automatic bid to the NCCAA national tournament.

The match will also carry some extra significance for the McM team and longtime head coach Cammie Petree.  In her 22nd year at the helm of the War Hawks – spread over three different stints in the position – Petree will be looking to gain her 400th career coaching victory when her team takes on SAGU. She currently has a record of 399-256.

McMurry made short work of the Eagles Friday's bout, defeating SWCU by set scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-18.

Jordyn Burnell had a double-double of 11 kills and 13 digs.  Burnell had 28 attack attempts and had a .357 attack average. She also had two blocks and two aces.

Junior libero Odalis Rodriguez took care of matters in the back row with 21 digs.  Christian Brown chipped in 11 digs.

McMurry's setter tandem of Lauryn Davis and Emarie James accounted for 37 of the team's 40 assists.  Davis booked 20 "helps" and James 17.

McM hit .258 as a team, while limiting the Eagles to a .095 attack average.
