BELTON, Texas - McMurry University's men's soccer team did not have an answer for the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, the American Southwest Conference's runner-up team, losing 9-0 on the road.
The War Hawks are now 3-6-2 on the year and 2-2-2 in the ASC. The Crusaders are 8-4 overall and 4-1 in league.
After battling scoreless for the first half-hour of the game, but in the 32nd minute the roof caved in on the War Hawks. The goal-spree started with a UMHB penalty kick goal at the 31:32 mark. That was followed by goals in the 34th, 35th, 40th, 42nd and 44th minutes, as the Cru took a 6-0 lead into the locker room and never looked back.
McMurry was out-shot by a 27-2 margin. UMHB put 13 shots on goal, as McM goalies
Alex Chavez and
Francisco Carachure had three and one saves, respectively.
Mike Cruz and
Jesus Sanchez were the only War Hawks to muster a shot. Three UMHB goalkeepers combined on the shutout.
The nine goals allowed is the most ever given up by a McMurry team to an opponent and the most permitted since NCAA II UT-Permian Basin hung an 8-0 loss on the War Hawks in 2015.
The War Hawks continued the weekend road trip with a match at Concordia University-Texas in Austin on Saturday.
