ABILENE, Texas – After defeating Howard Payne University twice so far this season, a third win eluded the McMurry University volleyball team in its own Halloween Tournament at Kimbrell Arena. The War Hawks (16-10) lost to the Lady Jackets (10-14),by a score of 3-1 (24-26, 25-19, 23-25, 23-25).
Junior
Baylie Barnes led McM with 11 kills and 33 attack attempts. Barnes also had five digs and an ace.
Freshman
Justice McGowan had nine kills and hit .273 on attack attempts. McGowan also had four blocks.
Taylor Sterling led McMurry with seven blocks (three solo).
Senior
Katy Headrick and sophomore
Madison Reed each added six kills. Headrick had four blocks, nine digs and accounted for three of the team's six aces. Reed had four digs.
Christian Brown and
Odalis Rodriguez each had 19 digs.
Madison Fatheree and
Emarie James each had double-digit digs with 11 each.
Fatheree and James had 19 and 10 assists, respectively.
The McMurry Halloween Tournament wraps up on Saturday. McMurry will face Jarvis Christian at 11 a.m. and the University of Dallas at 3 p.m.
