ABILENE, Texas – On the final day of the McMurry University Halloween Volleyball Tournament, the host McM team earned a pair of victories on its ledger. The War Hawks (18-10) defeated both Jarvis Christian and the University of Dallas by identical 3-0 scores at Kimbrell Arena.
Against JCC, the McMurry team won by scores of 25-15, 25-10, 25-11. The War Hawks hit a healthy .256 on their attacks, while limiting the Bulldogs to a minus-.144 attack average. McM had 31 kills (compared to just 17 by JCC) and had seven team blocks.
Senior
Katy Headrick's nine kills led either team. Headrick had a .471 attack average. She also had eight digs and an ace.
Jordyn Burnell added eight kills and two blocks. She had the best attacking match of any War Hawks, hitting .636 in 11 attempts.
Madison Reed and
Lauren Heathcote had four kills each.
Heathcote had a match-high five blocks.
Madison Fatheree had 11 assists and
Odalis Rodriguez 10 digs.
In the tourney capper against the University of Dallas, McM won by scores of 25-14, 25-18, 25-13. It was McM's defense again setting the tone as the Crusaders hit just .007 for the match on their attacks. The War Hawks had a total of 12 team blocks.
Heathcote's seven blocks again led McMurry, to go along with her four kills.
Freshman
Justice McGowan had nine kills to top McM, while also contributing two blocks. Burnell had six kills and three blocks. Reed and
Taylor Sterling each had four kills, as well as two and three blocks, respectively. Headrick had three kills and four blocks.
Rodriguez added 17 digs in the back row, with
Jaelyn Green making 10 digs. Fatheree and
Emarie James each had 12 assists.
