MARSHALL, Texas – McMurry University men's soccer allowed one goal in each half – but was kept from the nets itself – in a 2-0 loss at East Texas Baptist University. The loss dropped McM to 3-10-2 on the year and 2-6-2 in the ASC, while the Tigers improved to 9-8 overall and 4-5 in league.
The two teams combined for 32 total shots, 19 by ETBU and 13 by McM. The Tigers put 10 shots directly on goal, while the War Hawks sent seven tries at the net.
Unfortunately for McM, ETBU goalie Bryant Botello turned away all seven of McMurry's efforts. McM goalkeeper
Alex Chavez had eight saves.
ETBU scored first in the 21st minute of play, carrying that 1-0 lead into the halftime locker room. Just 3:04 minutes into the second half, Chavez blocked a penalty kick by David Jackson. But Jackson got his own rebound and sent it to the back of the net for a 2-0 Tigers' lead.
Mike Cruz took two of the War Hawks' shots, putting both on-goal.
Matt Hernandez,
Ahmad Holt Jr.,
Jesus Sanchez and
Josh Erwin all took two shot attempts.
McMurry will close out the season on Saturday at LeTourneau University.
