Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Dave Beyer, McM Sports Information Director

McM's Slow Start Leads to 3-0 Setback

VICTORIA, Texas – The McMurry University men's soccer team gave up three first half goals and could not overcome the deficit in a 3-0 non-conference road loss at the University of Houston-Victoria. The War Hawks fell to 3-9-2 on the year, while the Jaguars improved to 8-5-1.

UHV was able to build its first half cache of goals off of, in part, a pair of McMurry fouls.  The Jaguars first goal – in the 19th minute came on a penalty kick goal by Connor McGillivray.  UHV then added a goal off a free kick from Marcus Watt to Brian Foulger to make it 2-0 in the 28th minute of action.

The Jaguars added their final goal with just 45 seconds remaining in the first half.

While UHV held a marginal advantage in shots taken – 14-11 – McM actually put a higher percentage on goal.  The War Hawks peppered Jaguars goalie Brian Redmond with eight shots on goal, all saved.  UHV put seven shots at McM's Alex Chavez, who had four saves.

McMurry's Javi Mejia-Escalante had three shot attempts, with two on goal. Both of Mike Cruz's attempts were also on goal. Rafael Lara had a pair of shot tries, one on goal.
