ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's volleyball team recorded its seventh shutout of the season, blanking Sul Ross State University, 3-0. The War Hawks (16-8, 9-5 ASC) won by set scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-21 over the visiting Lobos (3-22, 2-12 ASC) in the American Southwest Conference match.
On a day when the program honored its four seniors –
Katy Headrick,
Madison Fatheree,
Lauren Heathcote and LaNissa Buns – the War Hawks hit a healthy .248 attack average for the afternoon. But it turned out to be one of head coach
Cammie Petree's newcomers who led that assault, as freshman
Justice McGowan had a match-best 13 kills. McGowan hit .500 in her 22 attack attempts. She also had a pair of assisted blocks.
Junior transfer
Baylie Barnes added eight kills, as well as five digs. Headrick had six kills of her own and also booked two blocks. Sophomore
Madison Reed and
Jasmine Jones each had five kills.
Fatheree has 19 of her team's 35 assists and made nine digs, as well.
Emarie James added 10 assists. Fatheree and James also had nine and three digs, respectively.
Fatheree also served up three of the War Hawks' six aces in the match. James had two aces and
Julie Campos one.
McMurry will play its final ASC game of the year on Tuesday (Oct. 25) at Concordia University-Texas.
