War Hawks Edged by UTD in Overtime, 1-0

ABILENE, Texas – For the second-consecutive match, McMurry University men's soccer went to overtime in a match, this time falling to the University of Texas at Dallas, 1-0, at Wilford Moore Stadium.  The War Hawks fell to 3-5-2 (2-2-2 ASC), while the Comets improved to 6-3-1 (3-0-1 ASC).

The War Hawks defense held an aggressive UTD squad at bay the bulk of the contest, despite being out-shot by the American Southwest Conference's second place team, 21-4.  McM goalkeeper Alex Chavez had five saves, before the visitors scored with 6:41 left in the first overtime period, with McMurry playing down one man on the field.

Mike Cruz and Javi Mejia-Escalante each had two shots for McM.  Each also put on shot on goal, as UTD net-minder Joseph Weber had two saves.

UT Dallas took 11 first-half shots, nine in the second and the winner in OT. McM managed just one attempt in the first half, but upped that to three in the second half.

The Comets held a 7-3 differential on corner kicks, as well.

The War Hawks will play two key ASC contests this weekend. On Friday, McM – currently fourth in the league standings – will travel to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, the No. 3 team.  Then on Saturday, McMurry heads to the ASC's sixth place team, Concordia University-Texas.
