Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Dave Beyer, McM Sports Information Director

Women's Soccer Blanks Jarvis Christian, 5-0

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University women's soccer continued its dominance over Jarvis Christian College, scoring a 5-0 win at Wilford Moore Stadium. In the past two seasons, the War Hawks (1-1) have out-scored the Bulldogs by a 19-1 margin.

The victory was also the first at McM for new head coach Megan Schmidt.

Senior Hailey Presley got the scoring party started early, taking a pass from Holiday Williams and finding the back of the net just 1:39 minutes into the match.  It was Presley's first goal of the season.

McM freshman Hannah Way notched her first goal of 2015 in the 18th minute, putting the War Hawks ahead, 2-0.  Williams also assisted on Way's goal.

In the 50th minute of play, Williams picked up her third assist of the match, sending a corner kick to Cristen Lumbreras in front of the net. Lumbreras promptly drilled the ball past JCC's Jessica Chab to make it 3-0.

As if the Bulldogs didn't have their hands full with the persistent McM attack – which out-shot JCC 15-1 – Jarvis' Marcelina Nava kick a ball into her team's net for an "own goal" in the 74th minute that made it 4-0. In the 85th minute, McM's Heidy Mendoza-Alvarez scored off of a rebound to make it the 5-0 final score.

McM goaltender Simone Heinle was as lonely as the Maytag repairman, Heinle did not face any shots on goal and most of the match was played in the JCC half of the filed. Conversely, the War Hawks put nine shots on-goal, with Chab making four saves.

McMurry's aggressiveness also showed in corner kicks, where then War Hawks had a 15-0 differential. Each team was offside once.

McMurry will look for its second-consecutive win on Wednesday (Sept. 9/1 p.m.), as the team travels to the University of the Southwest in Hobbs, N.M.
