SHERMAN, Texas – McMurry's volleyball team again split its pair of matches on Day 2 of the Austin College Invitational, topping Schreiner University, 3-0, and losing to Linfield (Ore.) College, 3-0. The losses left the War Hawks with an overall record of 3-2 on the year.
Senior transfer
Bethany Holub was selected to the event's all-tournament team. In the 14 sets of the four matches, Holub averaged 2.36 kills per set, while hitting .198. She also was stellar on the defensive side with 3.50 digs per set.
McM began the day topping Schreiner for the second time this season, winning by scores of 25-16, 25-14, 25-17. Senior
Catherine Heath had a team-leading 12 kills, with a .500 attack average. Heath also had seven digs and three blocks.
Holub and
Jessica Cory each amassed 13 digs.
Morgan Thomas made 15 assists, as well.
Katy Headrick served up five of her team's 12 aces in the match.
Against Linfield, McM was defeated in three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 29-27.
No War Hawks notched double figures in kills, but Heath knocked down nine kills to lead her team. Holub was close behind with seven kills and also had nine digs.
Thomas gave off 12 assists and had seven digs. Cory led the team with 12 digs and had four assists.
Madison Fatheree contributed nine assists and five digs.
McMurry will next play at Hardin-Simmons University on Wednesday (Sept. 9) at 7 p.m.
