ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's men's team gave up a second-half goal and were not able to bounce back, falling to Jarvis Christian College, 1-0, at Wilford Moore Stadium. The War Hawks fell to 0-2 on the year, while the Bulldogs improved to 1-1.
JCC took advantage of the youthful McM squad and out-shot the hosts by a 15-4 margin.
Rafael Lara had two of the War Hawks' four shot opportunities.
Matt Hernandez and
Martin Ornelas had the others.
The Bulldogs' Luis Canyon tallied the lone goal of the match in the 67th minute.
The action started when JCC's Daryl Ngoy blasted a shot on McM goalkeeper
Austin Long. Long made a diving save, but could not control the ball and Canyon was on the spot to knock home the rebound.
In all Long had six saves in the match. JCC's Ricardo Zuniga did not face a shot directly on goal.
Both teams pushed the pace and tried to force the issue. JCC was whistled for five off-side calls and McM for four. Jarvis held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
McMurry will look for its first win of the season on Wednesday, traveling to the University of the Southwest (3 p.m.) in Hobbs, N.M.
