SHERMAN, Texas – McMurry University's volleyball team split its Day 1 matches at the Austin College Invitational. The War Hawks (2-1) lost their opening bout to Texas Lutheran University by a 3-1 score, and then defeated Centenary College by an identical 3-1 count.
In its opener, McM hit just .099 and lost by scorers of 25-19, 18-25, 25-22, 25-20 to the Bulldogs (1-0). TLU hit .181 and served up eight aces versus McMurry.
The War Hawks' senior transfer
Bethany Holub had 11 kills and 18 digs, the team leader in both categories.
Catherine Heath added eight kills, but had nine attack errors.
Audrey Sanders booked seven kills with two blocks.

Jessica Cory had three of her team's aces and also contributed 15 digs.
Jessica Tennis had 15 assists – as did fellow setter
Morgan Thomas – and 11 digs.
McMurry reversed its fortunes in its second match of the day, topping Centenary 25-10, 25-10, 29-27, 25-12.
Holub had another double-digit kill total, racking up 13 versus CC. Holub mad just two errors in 31 attempts, for a .355 attack average.
Heath rebounded with nine kills and one error in 16 attacks, a .500 percentage. Heath served two aces and had two blocks.
Thomas had 26 assists and Megan Fatheree added 10 "helps". On the defensive side, Cory had a match-high 24 digs.
Sanders had a hand in seven of McM's 10 blocks, four solo.
Katy Headrick had four blocks to her credit, while newcomer
Autumn Quinn had two blocks.
The War Hawks close out play at the Austin tourney on Saturday, with matches versus Schreiner University (9 a.m.) and Linfield (Ore.) College (3 p.m.).
