BELTON, Texas – McMurry University volleyball salvaged a split at the American Southwest Conference Crossover Tournament, defeating LeTourneau University, 3-0, in its Saturday match played at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The War Hawks improved to 7-4 with the victory over the Yellow Jackets (5-10), winning by set scores of 25-23, 25-23, 25-20.
The senior trio of
Catherine Heath,
Jessica Cory and
Bethany Holub led the McM attack. Heath and Cory – a libero - each had eight kills, with Holub adding seven. Heath and Holub each also booked a pair of blocks, as well. Cory contributed 11 digs.
Both teams had identical .120 attack averages for the match. The War Hawks had six team blocks, while the Jackets had three.
McM junior
Katy Headrick had a game-leading four blocks to go along with her five kills.
Setters
Morgan Thomas and
Madison Fatheree combined for 30 assists. Homas had 18 "helps" and Fatheree 12. The duo had eight and seven digs, respectively.
Defensive specialist
Odalis Rodriguez had a fine defensive outing with 19 digs. Rodriguez also served up one of her team's three aces in the match.
