KEENE, Texas - McMurry University women's basketball had its biggest offensive outburst in nearly three seasons, rolling to a 92-30 victory over Southwestern Adventist University on the road. With the win, the War Hawks improved to 3-18.
The 92 points scored was the most by an McM team since February 18, 2012 when the War Hawks dropped 105 on Sul Ross State. The win also snapped a four-game losing skein for McMurry.
Senior guard
Ashley Hesseltine and junior forward
Taylor Russell each booked 18 points. Hesseltine was 7-of-9 from the field, 1-for-2 from beyond the arc, and was 3-for-3 from the free throw line. She also had four steals.
Russell was 8-of-10 shooting from the field and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. Russell corralled eight rebounds.
Also reaching double-digit scoring for McM was
Adijatu Disu and
Tori Reyes. Disu had 13 points and Reyes 10. Reyes also made three steals.
Mishae Rope narrowly missed a double-double. Roper score eight points and snagged 11 rebounds (seven on the offensive end).
Katlyn Tarbet had seven points, four assists and five steals.
Haley Welch was held to four points, but produced game-leading numbers in assists (6) and steals (7).
Taylor Neal also had eight points, five rebounds and four steals off the McMurry bench.
The War Hawks shot a blistering 46.3 percent (37-80) from the field and was 12-for-18 from the free throw line. McM also held a commanding 48-28 margin on the glass.
A smothering McM defense forced 45 turnovers by the Knights, which the War Hawks converted into 56 of its points.
