War Hawks Go Down Swinging in Season Finale

ABILENE, Texas – Despite a strong first half effort, the McMurry University women's basketball team was eventually overcome by Tarleton State University, 85-62, in the season finale at Kimbrell Arena.

The War Hawks closed the books on the 2014-15 with a 4-21 mark. The Texanns improved to 16-9.

In the early going, it looked as the TSU might run away and hide from McMurry, opening the game on a 10-0 run before the hosts got on the scoreboard on a pair of Adijatu Disu free throws at the 17:15 mark. Arielle Bermudez's layup with 11:44 remaining until halftime put McM on top, 13-12.

The teams were still tied at 15-15 midway through the period. However, 21-7 run by the Texanns gave the visitors their largest lead of the half – 14 points – at 36-22 with 2:22 left in the period. Tarleton would eventually take a 38-26 lead into the halftime locker room.

TSU opened the second half in a flurry and pushed its lead into the 20-point range, which it maintained the bulk of the final stanza. The Texanns' largest lead was 27 points (73-46) with 4:47 left in the game.

Mishae Roper and Taylor Russell led McMurry in scoring with 13 points apiece. Roper had a double-double by pulling down a game-leading 10 rebounds, after hitting 4-of-5 from the field.

Russell grabbed seven rebounds and had a game-high six assists. Russell connected on 7-of-9 from the free throw stripe. Tayler Boroson added 10 points as the third War Hawk in double-figure scoring.

Three McM seniors – Disu, Ashley Hesseltine and Katlyn Tarbet – all closed out their McMurry careers versus TSU. Disu finished the day with a balanced eight point, two rebounds, two assists two blocks and two steals.

Hesseltine added seven points. Tarbet was held scoreless and limited to 14 minutes of action after aggravating a foot injury that has hampered her most of the season.
