ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University swimming teams hosted the University of Texas-Permian Basin and St. Gregory's University at the Phillips Family Center, closing out the team's home slate of games. Scored as a double dual meet, UTPB won all four of its matches, while the SGU men topped McMurry (104.5-77.5) and the McM women defeated the Cavaliers' women (86-64).
The War Hawks also honored the five seniors among their rosters:
Craig Bell, Kent Grime and
Christian Chavez from the men's team, and;
Samantha Spain and
Kelly McNamee from the women's squad.
Grimes was one of three McM swimmers to win an event and the lone member of the men's team. Grimes took first in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 56.73 seconds. He was also third in the 200 freestyle, touching at 1:54.29 minutes.
Sophomores
Katie Gorka and
Robyn Remschel both won events for the War Hawks' women. Gorka won the grueling 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 12:19.24 minutes.
Remschel took first in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing the race at 59.44 seconds.
McNamee was third in the 100 backstroke (1:03.82) in her final home meet as a War Hawk. She was also second in the 200 freestyle (2:09.75).
Freshman
Monica Flores took second place in both the 500-yard freestyle (5:58.52) and 200 individual medley (2:28.49).
