ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's struggled to generate offense against a strong Concordia University-Texas squad, falling 2-0 at Wilford Moore Stadium.
Despite out-shooting the War Hawks (1-10-1) by a 16-2 margin for the game, the high-flying Tornados (10-1-0) were held in check by a stout McM defense for much of the match, especially in the first half. The War Hawks looked as though they were en route to blanking CUTX in the first half until the hosts were flagged for a hard tackle in the box, giving the Tornados a penalty kick opportunity.
CUTX's Marshal Tucker would convert the PK to give the Tornados the 1-0 halftime advantage.
Concordia's second tally of the afternoon came in the 59th minute. Carl Linn took the feed from Zak Bergstrom and beat McM goaltender
Austin Long to make it 2-0.
Unfortunately, McMurry could not muster a threat against the Tornados' net, with no shots on goal. CUTX had six on-goal shots, with Long credited with four saves.
McMurry will host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday (Oct. 10) at 7 p.m., as the third event of the day at Wilford Moore Stadium for Homecoming 2015. The McM men will be preceded by the McMurry vs. Hardin-Simmons football game at noon and the women's soccer match versus CUTX at 5 p.m.
