Men's Soccer Can't Overcome Halftime Deficit

ABILENE, Texas – Visiting LeTourneau University jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead and host McMurry University men's soccer could not overtake them in a 2-1 defeat at Wilford Moore Stadium.

After being dominated statistically in the first half of play, the War Hawks turned up the heat in the second period. LETU out-shot McM by an 8-1 margin in the first half, but in the second it was McM which owned the 8-5 advantage in attempts. The Yellow Jackets went on top with goals in the 2nd and 30th minutes of play and made that stand up through the halftime break.

In the 66th minute of play, McMurry's offense broke through. The War Hawks had a flurry of shots on LETU's Miguel Cabrera before senior Kyle Riese was able to find the opening for the goal that made it 2-1.  Jeronimo Aguilar was credited with the assist.

It was Riese's team-leading fourth goal.

But McM could find no more goals the rest of the way as the Yellow Jackets gained the win.

Riese finished the afternoon with two of his team's nine shots, both on-goal. Aguilar and Michael von Ende-Becker each had a pair of shot attempts, as well.

McM goalkeeper Austin Long had four saves and was charged with both goals.  His LETU counterpart Cabrera had two saves.

McMurry will close out the season at home on Saturday at 7 p.m. versus East Texas Baptist University at Wilford Moore Stadium.
