ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University men's soccer lost its third-straight on-goal match, falling to East Texas Baptist University, 2-1, in double overtime. The War Hawks were topped when the Tigers tallied with just 23 seconds left in the contest.
 
The gritty McMurry effort saw the team out-shoot ETBU by a 14-12 margin for the match. Trailing 1-0 after the Tigers scored in the 30th minute, McM knotted the match just before halftime.
 
In the 43rd minute, Martin Ornelas headed in a ball off of a free kick from Michael von Ende-Becker to tie matters at 1-1. That score stood through halftime…and beyond.
 
Neither team was able to score in the second period of regulation, nor in the first overtime segment.  The bulk of the second overtime ticked by and, in the waning seconds, it appeared the teams may end in a draw.
 
However, ETBU's Gunner Gibson shot a ball past McM goalie Austin Long to end the match and send McM to a 2-1 loss.
 
The contest was also the career capper for McMurry's trio of seniors: von Ende-Becker, Kyle Riese and Jeronimo Aguilar.
