BROWNWOOD, Texas – McMurry University's men's soccer team rallied from a halftime deficit, to forge a 1-1 double-overtime time at Howard Payne University's Citizens National Bank Soccer Field.
The War Hawks – playing their seventh road match of the year – are now 1-9-1 overall. The Yellow Jackets are 2-5-1.
HPU tallied first in the 32nd minute on a header goal by Alex Sanchez. The assist went to Reid Longabaugh. The Yellow Jackets held McM off the balance of the half and carried the 1-0 cushion into the halftime.
McM's
Abraham Martinez got the War Hawks even in the 65th minute. Martinez's first goal in the Maroon and White was the equalizer, with the assist going to
Eduardo Zuluaga, making it 1-1 as it stood through regulation.
Neither team was able to score in the two extra segments, but HPU out-shot McM by a 7-2 margin in OT (and 24-10 in the match). McM's
Martin Ornelas took five of his team's shot attempts.
