Box Score ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University volleyball had the tables turned on it versus crosstown rival Hardin-Simmons University, dropping a 3-0 ( 26-24, 25-21, 25-9) match at Kimbrell Arena. Back on Sept. 9, the War Hawks (12-9) toppled the Cowgirls (6-10) on their home floor.
In set one, McM looked like it had picked up where it had left off in the first meeting versus HSU, as the War Hawks built a 20-10 lead. However, the Cowgirls would out-score McMurry 16-4 the rest of the way to take the 26-24 win.
HSU led wire-to-wire in set two, jumping ahead 5-1. McM got to within 9-7, but was unable to make it any closer as the Cowgirls won by a 25-21 margin. HSU dominated the third set, 25-9, to close out the match victory.
The War Hawks struggled on offense, posting their worst attack average (-.049) of the season. Conversely, HSU hit a creditable .225. Hardin-Simmons also amassed 10 service aces.
Junior
Katy Headrick had five kills to top McM's team.
Jessica Cory and
Audrey Sanders had four kills each.
Sanders and
Catherine Heath had five blocks, apiece. Headrick added a pair of blocks.
Senior setter
Morgan Thomas had 11 assists. Freshman libero
Odalis Rodriguez had 13 digs on the defensive half and also had a pair of aces.
McMurry will host Dallas Christian College on Saturday (1 p.m.) for the team's "Senior Day."
