TYLER, Texas – McMurry University volleyball snapped its modest two-match losing streak with a 3-1 win over Belhaven University at the ASC Crossover Tournament, hosted by UT-Tyler. The win improved the War Hawks' record to 12-7 on the year.
The Blazers (8-15) won the opening set, 25-21, giving McMurry seven-straight sets lost after being swept twice on Friday. However, this time McMurry would reverse its fortunes by winning the next three sets by scores of 25-11, 25-12 and 25-19.
The double-barreled attack of seniors
Jessica Cory and
Catherine Heath led the offense. The pair had double-digit kills, with Cory knocking down a match-leading 15 kills and Heath 13. Cory had a .282 attack average, as well as 16 digs and three blocks.
Heath chipped in two blocks.
Audrey Sanders led the War Hawks with five blocks (four solo) and also had five kills.
Katy Headrick also had five blocks, to go along with four kills. In all, thye McM team had 13 blocks as a team.
The setter tandem of
Morgan Thomas and
Jessica Tennis had 22 and 18 assists, respectively. Thomas also had 10 digs and Tennis nine digs.
Bethany Holub's 23 digs led either team. Holub registered six kills.
Freshman libero
Odalis Rodriguez had 16 digs and a pair of service aces. Cory, Headrick and Thomas had one ace, apiece.
