ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University fell victim to a slow start, but still made a strong showing down the stretch, in a 3-0 loss to Hardin-Simmons University at the HSU Soccer Complex.
The War Hawks (1-12-1) were touched up for three first-half goals by the Cowboys (6-5-2), but then played a 0-0 second half versus the crosstown foes.
HSU out-shot McMurry by a 14-8 margin, putting six shots on goal. McM had one shot on-goal. The Cowboys tallied in the 11th, 22nd and 45th minutes.
The War Hawks' freshman goalkeeper,
Austin Long, was charged with all three goals and also had three saves. HSU's Michael Vargas had one save in gaining the shutout.
Matt Hernandez had three of McMurry's shot attempt, including the shot on-goal in the first half,
Zack Smith had two attempts for the War Hawks.
