ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's swim teams both came out on the short end of a double-dual meet versus Southwestern University and the University of Texas-Permian Basin at the Phillips Family Center on Friday evening.
The War Hawks' women's team lost to the Pirates by a score of 191-75 and to the Falcons, 163-68. The McM men fell to SWU, 205-55, and to UTPB, 223-37. Southwestern won both of its women's matches, while Permian Basin went 2-0 in the men's competition.
Freshman
Robyn Remschel highlighted the meet for McM head coach
Bev Ball's squads. Remschel remained unbeaten in the 100 backstroke (9-0) and the 200 backstroke (6-0). Versus UTPB and Southwestern, Remschel won the 100 back in a clocking of 1:01.21 and took the 200 back in 2:11.85 minutes.
Amber Garrett was the runner-up in the grueling 1000-yard freestyle, touching at 11:53.46 minutes.
Kelsey Frazier earned a third place in the 100 butterfly (1:06.28).
The men had a pair of third places from
David Bowers in the 100 backstroke and
Kamron Salinas in the 100 breaststroke. Bowers' time was 57.97 seconds and Salinas finished at 1:03.39.
Kent Grimes was fourth in the 200 backstroke at 2:08.58.
McM will host its regular season finale on Saturday, February 7 at home versus Austin College.
