GOLDEN, Colo. – For the third time in as many games, McMurry University's women's basketball team squared off against an NCAA Division II foe. After splitting the first two games – both in overtime – the War Hawks (1-2) found themselves on the wrong end of an 86-65 score at Colorado School of Mines at Lockridge Arena.
Sophomore transfer
Taylor Neal led McM with 15 points, hitting six-of13 from the floor. Neal also had four rebounds.
Adijatu Disu, a senior forward, had 14 points and tied for game-high rebound honors with eight. Disu was a clutch five-for-six from the field and four-of-six from the free throw stripe.
Sophomore
Haley Welch was McM's third double-digit scorer with 10 points. Welch also had six boards. However, as a team, the War Hawks were out-rebounded by a 50-33 margin by the Orediggers.
Tayler Boroson came off the McMurry bench to chip in nine points and pull down five rebounds.
Colorado Mines made nine for field goals than did the War Hawks (31 to 22), including a 11-4 advantage of shots made from beyond the arc.
McMurry led for just 3:50 minutes of the game, all in the first half. Its last lead was at 25-24 after a pair of free throws by Disu. CSM took over for good with 7:55 remaining until the halftime break, building up a 44-35 difference by the intermission.
The Orediggers pushed the deficit for McM up to double digits early in the second half and never looked back. Mines led by as much as 25 with 6:P21 left in the game.
The Orediggers' Taylor Helbig led all scorers with 38 points.
McMurry will finish its three-game Colorado road swing with a bout at Regis College in Denver on Saturday (5 p.m. MT).
