ABILENE, Texas – McMurry volleyball extended its winning streak to seven-consecutive matches with a three set victory over Schreiner University at Kimbrell Arena. The War Hawks improved to13-5 with its 25-15, 25-14, 25-17 win over the Mountaineers (1-18).
McM has not lost a set during its current win skein, as well.
Junior
Catherine Heath showed why she is the team's leader in kills, powering down 13 kills in 19 attempts (with one error) for a .632 attack percentage. As a team, McMurry hit an impressive .340 as a unit.
Sophomore
Lauren Heathcote had one of her best outings in the Maroon & White. After missing all of 2013 with an ankle injury, Heathcote has blossomed this season and knocked down eight kills against the Mountaineers. She also had four digs and a match-leading five blocks.
Audrey Sanders added four blocks to account for the bulk of McM's frontline defense. Libero
Jessica Cory had 15 digs.
Senior outside hitter
Kayla Hines hit at a .368 clip, with eight kills in 19 attempts, with just one error.
Kelsey Harkins added seven kills and nine digs, contributing on both offense and defense.
McMurry's "Twin T" setter combination of
Jessica Tennis and
Morgan Thomas accounted for 35 assists between them, Tennis registered 18 of the "helps," with Thomas netting 17.
The War Hawks served up a total of seven aces, as well.
Madison Fatheree led the team with three aces, while Thomas and
Katy Headrick had two and one, respectively.
The War Hawks return to action on Thursday evening at Huston-Tillotson University. Start time in Austin is 5 p.m.
