Box Score ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University baseball team (5-6) fell, 10-2, in cross-town matchup against Abilene Christian on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats scored at least one run in six of the nine innings during the contest while the ACU pitching staff held the War Hawks to just five hits.
Over the first three innings, a combination of “small-ball” and walks issued allowed ACU to score five runs with just three hits to open a 5-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the War Hawks fought back with two runs in the frame. After
Eric Moritz reached base to lead off the inning, a two-out homer by
Jeremy Ruiz gave the War Hawks their only two runs of the contest, and cut the lead to 5-2.
Over the final five innings of the contest, three McMurry errors couple with six Wildcat hits gave ACU five more runs in the game, and the game finished with McM on the wrong end of a 10-2 decision.
Offensively, the War Hawks were led by
Dylan De Leon's two-for-four night. Ruiz went one-for-four in the contest with two RBIs.
McMurry will be back in action on Friday and Saturday, February 22 and 23 when it travels to Fort Smith, Arkansas to take on Heartland Conference foe, the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith. Double header action on Friday will begin at 1 p.m.
