McM Baseball To Host #10 Angelo State Tuesday

ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry baseball team will try to end a two-game skid as they return home for a five-game home stand, starting with a single-game contest against Angelo State University, that comes in as the number 10 team in the country.
 
McMurry is coming off a 2-1 series defeat at the hands of Texas  - Permian Basin last weekend. The War Hawks took the first game of the contest, 2-1, before falling in the next two (4-0, 6-2).
 
The pitching staff, which allowed just four earned runs over the course of last weekend, continues to be the bright spot of the War Hawks early in the season. The team has allowed just six earned runs through the first six games of the season and has an ERA 1.15. Spencer Smith and Charlie Hejny are leading the way for the pitching staff, with both hurlers having a 0.00 ERA so far this season.
 
On the offensive side, AJ Dupre and Greg Koll lead the team hitting .333 on the year. Dupre leads the War Hawks with six hits, while Casey Berryman is the RBI leader with three.
 
The Rams of Angelo State come into the contest having won six of their first seven contests. ASU is also coming off a 2-1 series victory over Southern Arkansas.
 
Offensively, Angelo State is being led by Lee Neumann who is currently hitting .538 so far on the year. He has four extra-base hits and has 11 RBIs through seven games.
 
Probable Starters
 
For the War Hawks, Caleb Gonzales will get the nod as the starter. Gonzales has appeared in two contests, both in relief. He currently sports a 1-0 record and a 3.00 having given up one earned in three innings of work, while striking out one.
 
For the Rams, Bryce Zak will take the mound, making his second start of the season. He currently has a 7.71 ERA as he allowed four runs in 4.1 innings of work in his first start of the season.
