Swimmers Come Up Short at Southwestern


GEORGETOWN, Texas – McMurry University's swimming teams we defeated by Southwestern University on Saturday on the road. The War Hawk men lost by a 178-81 score and the McM women fell 208-60.

Freshman backstroker Kelly McNamee (Colleyville, Texas/Bell HS) won a pair of races to highlight the day for the McMurry women. McNamee won the 100 and 200 yard backstroke events in convincing fashion. McNamee swan a time of 1:03.61 in the 100, winning by more than six seconds, and posting a time of 2:18.89 in the 200 back (a four-second victory).

Another freshman – Kelsey Frazier (Lubbock, Texas/Monterey HS) – got her team's only other race win in the 100 butterfly. Frazier touched in a clocking of 1:04.70.

Samantha Spain and Sarah Hernandez placed 3-4 in the 50 freestyle, finishing at 26.85 and 26.94, respectively.

McM's men had individual winners in two races.

Sophomore Kamron Salinas took first place in the 100 yard breaststroke. Salinas' time of 1:03.15 was 5/100ths of a second ahead of the runner-up finisher.

Fellow sophomore Craig Bell out-distanced the seven-man field in the 100 butterfly in a time of 57.64 seconds. Bell was also second in the 200 butterfly (216.21).

Cameron Sikes earned a third in the men's 50 freestyle. In the 100 backstroke, McM took Nos. 2-4 with David Bowers (57.20), Kent Grimes (58.89) and Sam McCleney (59.48).

The War Hawks teams will next swim at the Southlake Shootout in Southlake, Texas, on November 22-23.
