ABILENE, Texas - The McMurry men's soccer team fought hard, but found itself on the losing end of a 2-1 decision against Wayland Baptist on Saturday afternoon.
In the first half of play, neither team could get the upper hand until the Pioneers' Javier Perry found the back of the net with just 28 seconds to play in the half to take the 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half of play, it would take the War Hawks just six minutes to answer, as
Jacob Howdeshell headed in a cross from
Mike Moon in the 51
st minute to tie the contest at 1-1. However, the Pioneers' of Wayland Baptist would score the go-ahead goal as Lamin Sawaneh connected off an assist by Miguel Teos to give WBU the 2-1 lead, which they would hold for their fifth-consecutive victory.
Howdeshell led the way for the War Hawks, as the goal was the first of the sophomore's career at McMurry. Moon also registered his first career point in Maroon & Black with his assist.
The War Hawks will be back in action on Thursday, September 20 when they travel to Dallas to take on Heartland Conference opponent Dallas Baptist University. The contest is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kick-off.
