ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's baseball team lost both ends of Saturday's doubleheader versus American Southwest Conference West Division leader Concordia-Texas, 2-1 & 10-0, at Walt Driggers Field.

The setbacks dropped the War Hawks to 18-19 overall and 11-7 in the ASC West race. CTX improved to 30-6 and 14-2 in league.

In game one, Caleb Gonzales made his first start of the year for head coach John Byington. Gonzales went six strong innings, allowing just six hits and two runs. He struck out five and walked two Tornados, but still took the loss as he fell to 2-3 on the year.

Charlie Hejny pitched a scoreless seventh for McM.

McMurry batters were unable to muster much offense versus Concordia, either. The War Hawks pale3d an unearned run in the bottom of the third inning. Ruben Zendejas reached on a fielding error and then came all the way around to third on a throwing error by CTX starter  Tyler Grygar on a pickoff attempt. A groundout to second by Nick Marsh got Zendejas home to make it 1-0.

Concordia scored its pair of runs in the top of the third frame to make it 2-1.

Dylan De Leon went 2-for-3 as the only McM player with more than one hit.  In the game, McMurry managed five hits total, all off Grygar.

In game two, McMurry got five hits again, but could not scratch out a run. Conversely, CTX rustled up 11 hits off of McMurry pitching in amassing the 10 runs lead by the seventh inning that halted the game.

McM starter Jacob Dentoni (3-3) took the loss, going five innings. Dentoni was charged with seven runs – all earned – and walked four.

McMurry's Matt Thompson and Kory Moench, both playing their final home games, each went 2-for-3 in the nightcap. DeLeon had McMurry's other hit in the game.
