ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's baseball team will put its six-game win streak on the line on Friday evening when it opens a three-game series versus Sul Ross State University at Walt Driggers Field. Friday's single game begins at 7 p.m. and Saturday's doubleheader first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
The series will feature the reigning American Southwest Conference West Division Co-Hitters of the Week: SRSU's Dakota Dill and McMurry's
Matt Thompson. Both rank among the ASC statistical leaders, with Dill No. 4 in batting average (.427) AND Thompson No. 8 (407).
Thompson is tied for the ASC lead with four homers, while Dill is first in triples (4) and tied second in doubles (9). Thompson is second in the league in walks (17), leads the circuit in on-base average (.584) and is fourth in slugging percentage (.722).
The War Hawks enter the weekend with a record of 8-11 overall and a chance to climb back to the .500 plateau. McM is 3-0 in the ASC West, currently tied for first place in the early going.
Sul Ross is tied for third place in the ASC West with a 2-1 mark, 6-15 overall in 2012.
McMurry has utilized a quick-strike mentality in its recent wins. In the first innings of the three games versus Schreiner University last weekend, the War Hawks plated a total of nine runs and also scored a nine-spot in each of the contests (winning 9-1, 9-2 and 9-3).
