War Hawk Women Fall to Concordia-Texas, 59-50

Box Score
AUSTIN, Texas – McMurry University's women's basketball team dropped a key American Southwest Conference game at league co-leader Concordia-Texas, 59-50, on Thursday evening at the CTX Fieldhouse.

The loss dropped the War Hawks to 15-7 overall and 13-5 in the ASC with the team's second-consecutive setback.

CTX jumped out to a 5-0 lead to open the game, before a Keshia Collins baseline jumper at the 16:39 mark of the opening period finally got McM on the board. A layup by the War Hawks' Jamie Wilson at 13:48 eventually knotted matters at 9-9 and her rebound-and-put back at 6:36 gave McMurry a 21-17 advantage.

The Tornados would eventually take a 27-25 lead into the halftime locker room.

Concordia came out on fire in the second half, eventually building a 15 point cushion midway through the period, 50-35.

But McMurry made one last valiant charge late in the game. Trailing by 13, with less than six minutes left, the War Hawks reeled off six unanswered points on a steal and layup by Wilson, followed by a coast-to-coast layup from Rikeita Thomas and an offensive rebound and layup by Collins. That made it 57-50 in favor of CTX with 3:37 remaining.

The good news for McMurry was that the Tornados did not score for the next three minutes. The bad news was that neither did the War Hawks, missing an opportunity to further reduce the deficit.

Both teams struggled to hold on to the ball, combining for 57 turnovers (32 by McM and 25 by CTX). McMurry shot 33 percent from the floor, while Concordia hit nearly 38 percent from the floor. The War Hawks won the battle of the boards by a 44-to-41 margin.

Collins had a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds for McMurry, along with six steals. Wilson added 13 points and seven boards off the bench in the loss.
