SEGUIN, Texas – McMurry University's women's basketball team will be looking to extend its current win streak to what would be a season-best eight games, when it travels to Texas Lutheran University on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The War Hawks (15-5, 13-3 ASC) remain a game out of first place in the ASC West standings after their 61-53 road win at Schreiner on Thursday.
When last these two teams met, just one week ago, McM held on for a 57-55 win at Kimbrell Arena. McMurry shot a uncharacteristic 29.6 percent, but were able to compensate thanks to forcing the Bulldogs into 24 turnovers.
Rikeita Thomas 13 points led the War Hawks in that last meeting versus the Bulldogs (4-16, 3-13 ASC).
Keshia Collins chipped in 12 and
M.J. Vickers added 11 points and 14 rebounds.
That game was the beginning of a three-game span during which Vickers turned in double-digit rebound totals in each. Vickers had back-to-back 14 rebound outings versus TLU and Hardin-Simmons, followed by 12 caroms Thursday at Schreiner.
For her efforts, Vickers was selected as last week's ASC West “Co-Player of the Week.”
Collins still tops the War Hawks' scoring chart at 15.3 points per game, as well as grabbing 6.7 rebounds per game. She has tallied in double-figures in 19 of 20 games this year. Collins has proven her versatility by passing off for a team-best 2.8 assists per game and registering 18 blocked shots.
Thomas is second on the McM scoring list at 9.5 p.p.g., while giving off 2.6 assists per game. Senior post player
Celeste Belizario is at 8.0 p.p.g. and 5.6 r.p.g., to go along with her team-leading 20 blocked shots.
Vickers is also at 8.0 p.p.g. and has raised her rebounding to a team-high 6.7 caroms per game (one total board more than teammate Collins).
