War Hawks Fall at Centenary, 6-3

SHREVEPORT, La. – Junior outfielder Dylan De Leon went 4-for-4, but it was not enough to keep McMurry from a 6-3 loss at Centenary University. The setback dropped the War Hawks to 2-9 on the year.

DeLeon had a double among his hits and also had a run scored and a run batted in.

Kory Moench was 1-for-2, also clubbing a double, and drawing a walk. Moench drove in one run.

Spencer Smith took the loss for McMurry, falling to 1-2 on the year.  Smith went 5 1/3 innings and was touched up for five earned runs. He gave up 10 of the Gents' 12 hits on the evening, issuing four walks and striking out five.

The War Hawks scored first when the DeLeon-Moench combination opened the game with back-to-back doubles to go up 1-0. In the second inning, McMurry tallied a pair of unearned runs in the second inning to expand the advantage to 3-0.

But it was all Centenary from that point on. CU got a single run in the second and third, and then added three in the fourth to go ahead 5-3. A single run in the seventh made it the 6-3 final.

The series concludes on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
