War Hawk Women Dispatch of UMHB, 72-60

Box Score BELTON, Texas -  McMurry University's women's basketball team snapped its two-game skid with a convincing 72-60 win at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The win improved the War Hawks' record to 16-7 overall and 14-5 in the American Southwest Conference.

UMHB held an eight point advantage – 20-12 – at the 11:45 mark of the first. The War Hawks were eventually able to forge a 22-22 tie by outscoring the Crusaders 10-2 over the next 4 ½ minutes.

McMurry took a 34-31 lead into the locker room.

Guard Rikeita Thomas had a blistering-hot first half for McMurry. The junior from Homestead scored 18 first half points and accounted for half of the War Hawks' field goals made (seven of the team's 14). Thomas was also 4-of-6 from the free throw line.

Thomas still ended up leading the War Hawk scoring efforts, despite scoring just a single second half point, with 19.

While the Cru was able to shut down Thomas in the second stanza, the rest of the McM squad picked up the pace. And none did so more than senior post player Celeste Belizario.

After scoring six first half points, Belizario doubled her output in the second period to finish the game with 18. She was an efficient 9-of 11 shooting from the field.

Jamie Wilson added 11 points off Veronica Snow's bench for her second-straight double-digit scoring game. Tory Salazar also finished the afternoon in double figures with 10 points.

M.J. Vickers led had a game-high 10 rebounds for McM.

McMurry's team hit better than 47 percent from the floor (30-63). On the other hand, the Cru shot a motley 38 percent (24-63). McM also held a decided edge on the glass, 42-33.
