KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The McMurry University men's soccer team was defeated, 3-0, at the hands of the #1 seed, Fresno Pacific University in the quarter final round of the NCCAA National Tournament on Thursday evening.
The Sunbirds got on the board first in the 12th minute of the first half, when Alvaro Nogales beat the defense down the sideline and placed the ball in the top right corner of the net from 20-yards out to give Fresno Pacific the 1-0 lead. Paul Islas scored the second goal of the day on an assist by Nogales in the 35th minute to five the Sunbirds the 2-0 advantage. The teams would go into the half with the same score.
In the second half, Fresno Pacific wasted no time as they scored their thrid goal off the foot of Bruno Pessoa in the 47th minute to give the Sunbirds the 3-0 advantage. The game would end by the same score.
The War Hawks had their chances in the game, which included eight shots and three on goal.
Jacob Howdeshell had the most chances on the day, totaling four shots.
Juan Isacura and
Antoine Freitas, Jr. had the other shots on goal in the game.
The War Hawks will take on the #5 seed Bethel College on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. eastern time (1:30 central). Bethel fell in its first round match, 3-0 to Palm Beach Atlantic.
