McMurry Women Win Third in a Row, 65-45

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's women's basketball team cruised to a 65-45 American Southwest Conference win over Mary Hardin-Baylor at Kimbrell Arena Saturday. It was the War Hawks (11-5, 9-3 ASC) third-consecutive victory.

M.J. Vickers scored 14 of her 19 points in the first half and added a double-double with 11 rebounds to lead the War Hawks.

UMHB suffered 22 turnovers compared to McMurry's 19. However, the War Hawks turned the Crusaders' miscues into 25 points while the visitors could only score seven points off McMurry turnovers.

The struggling Cru fell to 2-15 overall on the year and 1-12 in league play. UMHB led only briefly in the first half at 7-5 with 13:30 to play. However, McMurry went on to build a 13-point lead at halftime, 32-19. In the second half, the Crusaders only got within eight points of the lead in the second half before the War Hawks built as large as a 24-point lead.

Vickers hit three 3-point field goals in the first half and finished the game 7 of 13 from the field. Six of her 11 rebounds were on the offensive end, helping McMurry's effort of 16 second-chance points on the game. The junior also had four assists and three steals to cap the all-around game.

Keshia Collins had 17 points and six boards while Celeste Belizario had 11 points and five rebounds to accompany of a 5 for 7 effort from the floor. In the losing effort, Gabby Guzman had 10 points and six rebounds off the bench to lead the Crusaders

McMurry will play host to Schreiner Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

"I thought it was just  a great team effort," McM head coach Veronica Snow said. "I was so pleased. We really put the ball in the hole today.

"M.J.'s (Vickers) solid performance on the boards and scoring was a stabilizing factor."
