ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's volleyball team extended its perfect start to the season at 16 wins and zero losses when the War Hawks completed a sweep of East Texas Baptist 25-14, 25-14, 25-11 at Kimbrell Arena. The victory capped off a two-win day at the American Southwest Conference Crossover Volleyball Challenge at Kimbrell Arena after the team defeated Centenary in three sets Friday morning.
In the nightcap, McMurry hit .310 paced by
Bailey Marcum's eight kills while using a 12-block effort as a team. ETBU managed a negative hitting percentage at -.041, and the War Hawks have now taken their last seven matches in only three sets.
Stephanie Henry and
M.J. Vickers each had seven kills and
Kasi Conners had six kills and six total blocks.
Jasmine Qualls added a double-double with team-highs in assists with 14 and digs with 12.
Kayla Hines and
Brandi Barber also helped the defensive effort with six total blocks and Marcum had 11 digs.
In the losing effort, ETBU's Stormi Champion, Ashley Lindsey and Caitlyn Odom each had five kills. The Tigers fell to 4-11 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
McMurry closes competition at the crossover tournament Saturday at 2 p.m. against Mississippi College. Below is a summary of McMurry's win over Centenary.

The red-hot McMurry War Hawks volleyball team continued its best start in program history with a 3-0 sweep of Centenary College in the first game of the American Southwest Conference Dink Pink Crossover Tournament Friday afternoon at Kimbrell Arena.
With the win, the War Hawks improve to 15-0 on the year; meanwhile, Centenary falls to 5-6. Both teams will continue play in the ASC Dig Pink Crossover Friday -- McMurry returns to Kimbrell Arena at 7:30 p.m. to face East Texas Baptist, while the Ladies travel to Hardin-Simmons to face the Cowgirls at 5 p.m.
McMurry jumped out to a quick start is set one and led by as many as nine points (22-13) en route to taking the set 25-20. More of the same continued in set two with the War Hawks taking a 5-0 advantage out of the gate before winning the second frame, 25-14. In set three, Centenary battled back from an early 9-1 deficit to tie the set at 14. But McMurry never relinquished the lead again and ended up sealing the match with a 25-21 third-set victory.
Junior outside hitter MJ Vickers paced McMurry's effort with a double-double performance of 11 kills and 11 digs. Other top performers for McMurry included senior outside hitter
Bailey Marcum, who finished with nine kills and eight digs; freshman libero
Bailey Wilson, who finished with a match-high six service aces; and sophomore setter
Jasmine Qualls, who finished with a team-high 18 assists.
Centenary was led by senior outside hitter Jaclyn Lopez and junior middle blocker Shelby Singleton, who both finished with a match-high 12 kills, respectively. The Ladies' defensive specialist Taylor Gilmour tallied a match-high 12 digs, while senior setter Caitlin Neese finished with a match-high 22 assists.
