AUSTIN, Texas – McMurry University used a season-best .405 hitting percentage and continued its perfect start to the season as the War Hawks dismantled Concordia-Texas Tuesday night at the CTX Field House. McMurry swept the Tornados 25-13, 25-15, 25-11 to move to 14-0 overall and 6-0 in American Southwest Conference play.
Fresh off their ASC Player of the Week awards earned earlier Tuesday
Stephanie Henry and
Kasi Conners each delivered for the War hawks. Henry had a match-high 10 kills with no attacking errors on 14 attempts for an astounding .714 hitting percentage.
Conners led the defensive charge with three solo blocks, five assisted blocks, and added nine kills on the offensive side for McMurry.
M.J. Vickers and
Bailey Marcum added nine kills and seven kills respectively for the War Hawks.
The two-setter tandem of
Jasmine Qualls and
Demi Holladay paced the hot-hitting McMurry team that finished with 40 kills and only six attacking errors on 84 attempts. Qualls had 15 assists while Holladay added 11.
Defensively, the War Hawks were dominating with 11 total blocks, and the unit held the Tornados to a negative -.011 hitting percentage. In the losing effort Shelbi Chipman had seven kills for CTX.
McMurry's previous best hitting percentage came Tuesday against Oklahoma Panhandle State when the War Hawks hit .397. McMurry has now swept five straight opponents in three sets dating back to the Sept. 17 win over Sul Ross State in Alpine.
CTX fell to 6-6 overall and 2-4 in league play with the loss. McMurry will play host along with Hardin-Simmons to the ASC Crossover Tournament Friday and Saturday in Abilene. McMurry will take on new conference member Centenary College at Noon Friday followed by a match with East Texas Baptist at 7:30 p.m. at Kimbrell Arena.
