McMurry Opens ASC Play at Home With UT-Tyler and Concordia University

ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University women's soccer team is set to open American Southwest Conference play Friday 2 p.m. against Texas-Tyler at Edwards Field. The War Hawks will also play host to Concordia University Saturday 2 p.m. at Edwards Field. McMurry goes into the contests with a 1-2 record.

McMurry picked up its only win of the season Sept. 9 with a 2-1 victory over Central Christian College. Sophomore Rachel Moore has been moving up the list on career leaders for goals putting two in the back of the net for the War Hawks this season.

The Texas-Tyler Patriots come into the contest with a 1-3 record. The Patriots beat NAIA Texas College, and has losses to Southwestern, Fredonia State and nationally ranked Trinity University. They have been shut out in two of their three losses. McMurry lost to the Patriots 6-0 last season. Tyler lost in the championship game last season and picked to finish second in the ASC preseason poll behind Hardin-Simmons.

The Concordia University Tornados come into the weekend with a 2-2 record and wins against Austin College and Houston-Tillotson, and losses to Southwestern and Trinity. The Tornados are led by freshman Lena New who has scored two of the team's five goals on the season. McMurry lost to Concordia last season 5-0 in Austin. Concordia finished the 2010 season with a 10-6-3 record that marked the best in its history. The Tornados were picked to finish sixth in the ASC preseason poll.
