ABILENE, Texas – The NCAA announced Sunday that six teams are headed to McMurry University's Walt Driggers Field for the 2011 NCAA Division III West Division Region Baseball Championships. The field includes three Texas teams in Concordia-Texas University, University of Texas at Tyler and Trinity University. In addition, Linfield University (Ore.), Chapman University (Calif.) and University of Redlands (Calif.) will make the trip east to Abilene.
Concordia-Texas (30-15) out of Austin, was the American Southwest Conference automatic qualifier after the Tornados won their first conference tournament championship in school history. UT-Tyler (33-6) received an at-large selection by the NCAA out of the ASC after placing first in the ASC's East Division. Trinity (33-11) out of San Antonio won the Southern Collegiate Athletic Association tournament championship for the automatic bid.
The University of Redlands (29-11), located in Redlands, Calif. took the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship tournament crown to advance to Abilene. Chapman University out of Orange Calif., earned an at-large bid with a 29-11 record. Chapman won the NCAA III West Region championship the last time it was hosted at McMurry's Walt Driggers Field in 2008.

Abilene is one of eight sites of the 55-team NCAA Division III Baseball Regional Championship field. Six teams will compete at four regional sites; seven teams will compete at one regional site; eight teams will compete at three regional sites. All regionals will use a double-elimination format. Thirty-eight conference champions qualified automatically.
Winners of the eight regional tournaments will qualify for the double-elimination championship at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisconsin, May 27-31.
