Game 1 Box | Game 2 Box

ABILENE, Texas – Texas Lutheran swept the series with McMurry University in the American Southwest Conference West Division series opener with a doubleheader sweep Saturday at Walt Driggers Field. The Bulldogs used two solid starting pitching performances to move to 12-8 overall and 3-0 in league play.

McMurry managed just three runs on 10 hits combined in Saturday's doubleheader after the 10-8, 12-inning loss Friday night.

The War Hawks fell to 3-14 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Below is a recap of each game.:

Game Two: Texas Lutheran 7 McMurry 2

Sean Kistler limited McMurry to one run on four hits through eight innings, and he helped the Bulldogs take a 7-2 victory in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.

Kistler moved to 2-1 on the season, didn't walk a hitter and struck out five. He allowed a solo home run to the War hawks' Jake Mullin in the fourth for the only blemish on his pitching line.

Clay Rogers closed out the game allowing an RBI-single from McMurry's Matt Thompson, but that would be all that the War Hawks could muster in their final at bat.

Cody Miller finished with two hits and two RBI's while Isaac Tijerina led the team with three hits.

After McMurry starter Stephen Greenwood exited in the fourth, the McMurry bullpen combined for the final 5.2 innings to allow only two unearned runs. Michael Dibiasi threw 3.2 innings in his first appearance on the mound while Spencer Smith threw the final two innings in scoreless relief.

Game One: Texas Lutheran 3 McMurry 1

Texas Lutheran guaranteed the series behind a complete-game pitching performance from Christ Lewis, and the Bulldogs took the second game of the series 3-1.

Lewis scattered four hits over seven innings, allowed one run, walked one and struck out two to move to 3-3 on the season. Cody Miller, Isaac Tijerina and Evan Curtis all drove in runs for TLU; Miller hit his second solo home run in as many games for the Bulldogs.

Andrew Bell had two hits for the War Hawks but the only run came in the fifth when Jake Mullin drove home Greg Guse. Jordan Mattke allowed only two earned runs over 5.2 innings but picked up the loss to fall to 0-2 on the season.
