War Hawks look to improve on 4-0 ASC record against ETBU

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University looks to continue its American Southwest Conference win streak of four against East Texas Baptist University Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. in Kimbrell Arena. The team returns home after a 2-0 performance on the road, with wins over the University of the Ozarks and Texas-Dallas.
 
The War Hawks carry a 5-1 record with their only loss coming to Division I Texas-Arlington. Keshia Collins leads the offensive charge for McMurry scoring 16.2 points per game and 7.3 boards. Collins also leads the team in rebounds (44), assists (17) and steals (14). Junior point guard Rikeita Thomas carries an average of 10.3 points per game and has recorded 13 assists on the season. Freshman Katlyn Tarbet has added 13 assists on the year to aide the offense.
 
Thursday night the War Hawks face a 3-2 Tiger team coming off of a 12-point loss to Texas Lutheran University. ETBU is 2-2 in ASC action shooting 39 percent from the floor. Brandace Latin leads the team in scoring averaging 14.4 points per game. The Tigers are currently tied for fourth place in the East Division. Jamie Kadlecek leads the Tiger offense with 27 assists as a point guard.
 
Saturday afternoon McMurry will square off against Centenary College at 1 p.m. in Kimbrell Arena. The game against the Ladies, currently a probationary member of the ASC, will not count towards conference standings. Centenary carries a 2-4 overall record and a 2-3 record against ASC opponents. Megan Daniel leads the team scoring 14.8 points per game. Vahini Sharp-Moore is the general of the offense recording 36 assists on the season. As a team the Ladies shoot 40 percent from the floor.
 
The War Hawks currently rank first in scoring defense, holding opponents to 47.5 points per game and scoring margin, outscoring opponents by 20.2 points per game. Collins 16.2 points per game ranks sixth among all players in the ASC. The team will be looking for its fifth straight ASC victory against ETBU Thursday. The 4-0 start for the War Hawks is the best ASC start since the team won 13 straight to start the 2007-08 conference season.
