ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University started the 2011-12 American Southwest Conference season with a 2-0 start, and look to extend the streak against the University of the Ozarks and Texas-Dallas. The War Hawks will face the Ozarks on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and the Comets at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
McMurry has began the season 3-1 with its only loss coming to NCAA Division I opponent Texas- Arlington. 2010-11 Freshman and Defensive Player of the Year
Keshia Collins has started right where she left of averaging 18.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game over the four game span. Junior point guard
Rikeita Thomas is second on the team averaging 12.5 points per game. Freshman Kaylyn Tarbet leads the team with 11 assists on the year.
The Ozarks were picked to finish fourth in the ASC East Division preseason poll. The Eagles carry a 3-2 overall record and 1-1 record in ASC action. Sabrina Goddard leads the team averaging 15.8 points and six rebounds per game. Lacey Phillips has recorded 30 assists on the season. The Eagles are shooting 38 percent from the floor.
Texas-Dallas picked to finish second in the ASC East Division preseason poll carry an ASC record of 2-0 and are a perfect 5-0 on the season. Lyndsey Smith is the leading scorer for the Comets averaging 16.2 points per game. Ashley George leads the team with 7.6 rebounds per game. The team is shooting 43 percent from the floor.
As a team the War Hawks are shooting 41.5 percent from the floor. The team has outscored their ASC opponents by 16.5 points per game. The team is coming off of a 26-point victory over Texas-Tyler on Monday.
