McMurry beats Letourneau in ASC opener 60-53

ABILENE, Texas -  McMurry Universtiy wins its first American Southwest Conference match of the 2011-12 season 60-53 over LeTourneau University Saturday afternoon in Kimbrell Arena. Senior Celetse Belizario recorded a career high 14 points helping McMurry to victory.
 
McMurry shot 29.8 percent from the floor, recorded 41 rebounds, and 13 steals. The War Hawks Keshia Collins recorded 13 points, nine boards and four blocks. Belizario added seven boards, two blocks and three steals. Belizario only shot 2-10 from the floor, recorded 10 of her 14 points from the free throw line.
 
McMurry took a two-point lead into the locker room carried by nine bench points in the first half. The War Hawks largest lead of the first half 15-8 came at the 6:49 mark after M.J. Vickers sank two free throws.
 
McMurry's biggest lead of the second half came at the 3:20 mark after Vickers hit one of her two free throw shots to extend the lead to eight. With one second left on the clock McMurry's Collins hit two free throws to finish off the Yellowjackets.
 
The win moves McMurry to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in ASC action. The loss moves LeTourneau to 2-1 on the season carrying a 0-1 conference record. McMurry continues home action Monday night at 5:30 p.m. against Texas-Tyler in Kimbrell Arena.
 
A ceremony dedicating Ron Holmes Court will take place in between the men's and women's match on Monday. Ron Holmes, former McMurry head coach, amassed 300 wins in his 20 year career as McMurry's head coach.
