ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's volleyball program posted the second-highest win total in its history when the War Hawks swept Sul Ross State in American Southwest Conference competition at Kimbrell Arena. McMurry will pursue a tie for the school record Saturday when the War Hawks play host to Concordia-Texas at 1 p.m.
More importantly, the War Hawks maintained a half-game lead in the ASC West Division improving to 12-2 in league play. The Lobos on the other hand fell to 1-18 overall and 0-12 against conference competition.
McMurry hit .230 as a team, played its entire roster, and
M.J. Vickers led a balanced offensive attack with nine kills.
Stephanie Henry added seven kills and defensively
Bailey Marcum had seven digs while four of her teammates had five digs apiece.
The War Hawks tallied eight blocks defensively aiding in keeping the Lobos to a negative -.056 hitting percentage. In the losing effort Brooke Bangston and Tamika Harris had five kills apiece for Sul Ross State.
The Lobos led 13-6 in the third set before McMurry countered with an 11-2 run to take a 17-15 lead, and the War Hawks never looked back.
CTX will enter play standing fourth in the ASC West looking to improve to third in order to make the conference tournament.
